Thanks to my Google alerts, I found this brand new ad for the film program at Central New Mexico Community College. While I’m not familiar with the school itself, I still watched the short video which shines a light on young women who may be interested in a film career in New Mexico – or anywhere for that matter. There aren’t facts and figures on screen, but there are women highlighted in many technical aspects of set life, which I found particularly inspiring.
It ends with a group shot of the young women smiling brightly and looking at each other in camaraderie. This image may be idealistic, but I enjoy seeing and spreading the hope for future growth and inclusion of women in all areas of film.
Although we might only highlight women-directed projects here, research has shown that with a woman at the helm there is more likely to be a higher number of women in a variety of roles in front of, and behind, the camera. So, when you scroll through our current list of highlighted crowdfunding campaigns, remember that you aren’t only supporting female directors, you’re also likely supporting a number of other female craftspeople. As always, thank you for pitching in to amplify these campaigns via their chosen crowdfunding platform (Seed&Spark users benefit greatly from your follow!), on Twitter, Facebook, and elsewhere!
Reminder: All of the projects listed below have female directors at the helm OR they are projects that benefit women directors (e.g., film festivals, funds, etc). The campaigns at the top of the list are the ones ending soonest, so get in there and support ASAP (with $$ or an RT on Twitter). Click the titles to go directly to each project’s crowdfunding page, those in italics are new additions this week.
Thanks for visiting and thank you very much for helping us support and raise awareness about WOMEN DIRECTORS AT WORK!
